ZEISS ClearMind · New

See Clearly

Your eyes collect light; your brain makes the picture. When the image is blurred, the brain works harder to fill in the gaps, using up working memory you would rather spend on the task in front of you.

In 2025 ZEISS and the University of Tübingen showed, using EEG, that blur from spectacle lenses raises that cognitive load.3 ClearMind is the result: lenses with NeurOptix technology, which keep the zones your eyes use most at their sharpest and push lens-induced blur to where it matters least.

Schematic varifocal lens The sharp area shows the clear zones for far, intermediate and near vision; the blurred area at the sides is the peripheral blur every varifocal has.

Schematic illustration. Actual zone sizes depend on prescription, add power and base curve.2

Digital ClearMind

For tired eyes at screens and print. A large distance zone, plus a gentle boost of +0.50 to +1.25 at the bottom of the lens for comfortable reading.

Progressive ClearMind

A varifocal with large fields of clear vision at all distances, an extra-large intermediate zone and smooth transitions, for fast adaptation.

Up to 10% less blur towards the edges than Progressive SmartLife2

ClearMind PRO goes one step further, calculating the lens from your own measured pupil size rather than an average for your age, with optional i.Scription technology to fine-tune the prescription for day and night. It needs a wavefront measurement of your eye, so ask us whether PRO is right for you.

ZEISS DriveSafe

Less Glare

Rain, dusk and oncoming LED headlights are when most of us feel least sure behind the wheel. DriveSafe is an everyday lens tuned for exactly that: one pair for the office and the drive home. Drag across the windscreen to compare.

Standard coating DuraVision DriveSafe

Simulation for illustration. Glare reduction is based on test drivers' reports, compared with other premium ZEISS coatings.5

64%

Less perceived glare. The DuraVision DriveSafe UV coating partially reflects the blue light from LED and xenon headlights that drivers find dazzling.5

43%

Larger mid-distance zone in DriveSafe varifocals, for an easier refocus between road, dashboard and mirrors.6

14%

Larger far-distance zone, for a wider view of the road. Luminance Design technology also accounts for your larger pupil at dusk and at night.6

Three questions for drivers

  • Do you feel you don't see as well in rain, at dusk or at night?
  • Do oncoming headlights feel uncomfortable?
  • Is it hard to switch focus between the road, the dashboard and the mirrors?

ZEISS DuraVision UV coatings

The Right Coating

A coating is what keeps a great lens great: fewer reflections, so people see your eyes and not the room behind you; a surface that sheds water, grease and dust; and a hard coat that shrugs off scratches. Every DuraVision UV coating also blocks UV bouncing off the back of the lens.

water contact angle. The higher the angle, the rounder the droplet and the faster water, grease and fingerprints let go.

ZEISS Office lenses

Clear From Keyboard to Colleague

Everyday varifocals give most of the lens to far vision. Office lenses hand it to the near and arm's-length distances of desk work instead, with wider zones so you are not tipping your head back to read the screen. Pick how far you need to see clearly:

ZEISS MyoCare

For Growing Eyes

Short-sightedness is becoming more common in children, and higher levels of myopia raise the risk of eye conditions later in life. Ordinary single vision lenses leave the periphery of the retina slightly out of focus behind it, which can act as a signal for the eye to keep growing.

MyoCare lenses use ZEISS C.A.R.E. technology: rings of competing defocus around clear zones, which send a stop signal to eye growth and are designed to slow the progression of myopia. MyoCare is for children aged 9 and under; MyoCare S for 10 and over.

ZEISS Lens Questions

What is the difference between ClearMind and SmartLife?

Both are individually calculated ZEISS lenses with wide, comfortable fields of view. ClearMind adds NeurOptix technology, which uses research into where the eyes really look through the lens, and how blur affects the brain, to keep those zones at their clearest. Against the equivalent SmartLife lens, ZEISS reports larger clear zones and less blur towards the edges: up to 7% larger in single vision, up to 22% less edge blur in Digital and up to 10% less in varifocals.

Will ZEISS varifocals work in the frame I choose?

Usually, yes. ClearMind and SmartLife Digital and varifocal lenses use FrameFit+ technology, which adjusts the length of the reading corridor to the frame so the reading area is not cut off. Most designs need a minimum fitting height of 14 mm, and we will check this with you when you choose your frame.

Do DriveSafe lenses look tinted?

No. DriveSafe lenses are clear, everyday lenses that you wear all day. The DuraVision DriveSafe UV coating has a light blue-purple reflection and partially reflects the blue light from headlights that causes glare. For bright sun, pair them with a prescription sun lens.

Can I drive in sun lenses and photochromics?

Filter categories 0 to 3 are suitable for driving in daylight; category 4 lenses, which absorb up to 97% of light, are too dark to drive in. With a strong mirror on a very dark tint, we check the combination against the ZEISS driving table. ZEISS AdaptiveSun lenses become much darker in cold, sunny conditions and are not suitable for open-air vehicles such as convertibles and motorcycles.

Do clear ZEISS lenses protect against UV?

ClearMind, SmartLife, ClearView, DriveSafe and MyoCare lenses include ZEISS UVProtect technology, which builds UV absorbers into the lens material and, with a DuraVision UV coating, gives full UV protection up to 400 nm in a clear lens, for the eyes and the skin around them.

I struggled with varifocals before. Will these be different?

Lens design makes a real difference. ClearMind and SmartLife Digital and varifocal lenses include Adaptation Control technology, which takes the design and fit of your previous lenses, and any change in prescription, into account to make the switch easier. Tell us what bothered you last time and we will factor it into the lens, frame and fitting.
