Ray-Ban began in Rochester, New York, with Bausch & Lomb anti-glare sunglasses made for aviators. The metal-framed design was patented as the Aviator in 1939, and in 1952 the Wayfarer turned eyewear into something you wore for the look as much as the light.
Today the brand is part of EssilorLuxottica, and the classics are still the heart of the range: alongside sunglasses, almost every icon comes as a prescription frame.
