Born in an optician’s shop
In 1969 the optometrist Poul-Jørn Lindberg opened an optical store in Aarhus, Denmark. With his son Henrik, an architect, he set out to make glasses that were lighter and more comfortable than anything his customers could buy.
The first air titanium prototype followed in 1983, and in 1986 the frame went on sale with a screwless spiral hinge, the moment the LINDBERG brand was founded. It won the Danish ID Prize in 1989, the first of more than a hundred international design awards.
