ic! berlin began in 1996 in a Berlin apartment, with three friends, a newly reunited city and an unconventional idea: frames cut from cold-rolled sheet stainless steel, held together by a hinge with no screws at all.
When no manufacturer would produce the design, the founders bought the machines and made it themselves. Three decades on, every frame is still designed, engineered and crafted by hand in Berlin, and quality checked there from the first drawing to the final inspection.

Thirty years of creative engineering
For its 30th anniversary, ic! berlin has released a capsule collection built around its signature polished chrome finish: four heritage stainless-steel frames, Leif, Wanda, Oli the 2nd and Pina, joined by two new styles, Sodium and Xenon. A new colour, Transformative Teal, a blend of blue and dark green, runs through the capsule, paired with matching photochromic lenses that adapt from indoors to sunlight.

The anniversary campaign, I See Berlin, is shot by Berlin photographer Tarek Mawad and features city figures including photographer and club icon Sven Marquardt, Michelin-starred chef Dalad Kambhu, artist Nina Pohl, DJ Nunguja Kisalya, architect and artist Thilo Reich and dancer Youngchan Moon.
